Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Hayes joined Miller Orthopaedic Clinic (now OrthoCarolina) in 2001 following a distinguished seven-year career on active duty as a surgeon in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Duke University and the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Hayes trained in orthopedic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He honed his expertise in shoulder surgery during a shoulder fellowship with Dr. Flatow at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
Prior to joining Miller Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr. Hayes was an orthopedic surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he cared for members of Congress and the White House. As the assistant residency director during his tenure at Bethesda Medical Center, he trained future Navy surgeons.
He is active in the community, serving as a team physician for Gardner-Webb University’s athletic programs, teaching classes at the university and covering local high school football games.
Dr. Hayes is a shoulder specialist and offers a wide range of orthopedic skills in sports medicine, trauma and adult reconstructive surgery.
