He launched his medical career in the United States Army, where he served as deputy hospital commander for clinical services during combat in Mogadishu, Somalia, from 1992 to 1993. He also holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology and taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point, serving as assistant professor of Sports Medicine.
In addition to providing medical care at Crest High School football games and performing physicals for athletes at Burns High School, Dr. James devotes much of his time to Gardner-Webb University. He is a member of the Board of Trustees and serves as team physician and medical director for its training majors. He also offers regular seminars for Shelby-area senior citizens on ways to prevent orthopedic injuries.
