Robert B. McBride Jr., MD
A broken arm during childhood led to Dr. McBride's career choice early in life. While in traction and hospitalized for one month, he observed orthopedic medicine from his bed and was inspired to make it his career. Today, a broken arm is put into a sling and a child is able to go home to heal - indicating only one of the dramatic advances Dr. McBride has witnessed since his childhood accident. Since 1985, when he joined the practice at our University Office (Suite 1110), Dr. McBride has been a part of these advances. Dr. McBride grew up in Charleston, WV, and attended Xavier University. He earned his medical degree at West Virginia University School of Medicine, and served his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center. He is board-certified in the practice of orthopedic surgery, and is a member of the Southern Orthopedic Association, Eastern Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and various other medical societies. Dr. McBride has been very active in the development of the University area, supporting the University YMCA, Rotary Club, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and many other organizations. Dr. McBride is also President of OrthoCarolina and has served in that capacity since January 2006.
